About Us
We are a thriving and friendly group with around 60 members
We hold a wide range of meetings and events in Scarborough
Monthly Events
Evening Meetings
These are usually held on the last Monday of the month in the modern, warm and comfortable environment of the Friends’ Meeting House. We welcome new members and visitors.
Part of the meeting is spent passing on information about future events, local and regional, and generally updating members. We have a refreshment break during which members can socialise and sign up for any forthcoming events. Most evenings we have an invited speaker or entertainer, and occasionally a social evening or local outing.
Craft Meetings
These informal get-togethers are held on the second Thursday of the month, in a light and airy room at the same spacious venue. Members work on their own projects or just come along for a chat and to see what others are making. We have refreshments and usually homemade cake.
Book Group
Our bookworms’ meeting is hosted by one of our members at her home.
Catch-up
A monthly, purely social meet up, is held over lunchtime in a local café. The venue changes from time to time.
Committee Meetings
Around 12 members meet monthly to plan our group’s activities. The meetings are lively and relaxed, and new members are encouraged to join the team. It’s a great way to get to know the members better and gain an understanding of the wider aspects of WI.
Other Events
NYEFWI
Many of our members attend social and educational events and trips organised by the North Yorkshire East Federation of WIs. Our members receive a monthly newsletter from NYEFWI which informs us of these events and keeps us in touch with what’s going on in the whole region. There are also many events and workshops held at the Federation HQ in Thirsk.
Vale and Dale
Several WI groups in our area join together to arrange regular trips and events, to which we are invited – details are given at our monthly meetings.
Dabble Day
For past few years Scalby and Newby members have organised a very popular and sociable November craft afternoon. Regular crafters and those who don’t usually ‘dabble’, get the chance to try making something different for Christmas.
