Thirsk and Carlton Miniott W.I.
Thirsk & Carlton Miniott WI offers all kinds of opportunities to its members: The opportunity to meet people, to make new friends, to enjoy an interesting and social evening every month; the opportunity to learn new skills, to take part in a wide range of activities and to get involved with the local community.
Most of our meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month and we meet upstairs at Thirsk and Sowerby Town Hall, Westgate, Thirsk. We usually begin at 7pm with a speaker/demonstrator/workshop, then break for refreshments and raffle and conclude with WI notices.
In addition to our monthly meetings, we also have a Social Club, which meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month, to enjoy each other’s company; we usually meet at 7.00pm in The Golden Fleece, Thirsk Market Place and have a drink and a chat together.
Last summer we visited Ripley Castle as a W.I., but we are also part of the North Yorkshire East Federation of W.I.s, which offers a wide-ranging programme of events and visits throughout the year for members: from Watercolour Painting, to Sailing, to Creative Writing. Some of us visited the Costume Warehouse for York Theatre Royal with other members of our Federation and we have enjoyed some great lunches with interesting speakers at various local venues around the area.
